Thinking about Adopting a Dog | Wed Jul 7, 2021

I like the way dog people love their ugly dogs. I’ve been thinking a lot about adopting a super mixed dog.

Maybe I’d get one that looks like he/she is smiling whenever his mouth is hanging open, so I can name him “Muttley”. If not smiling, he at least has to enter a room looking like he’s ready to have a good time.

I still want a house with a yard first. I want the dog to be able to get in exercise and whatnot. I’m not likely to adopt the kind of dogs with short legs who get exhausted from walking. I like the long-legged, high jumping, higher energy types.

I think about having a dog a lot

Whenever I think of having a dog, I’m in my yard at the Bubblehead home. The dog is a border collie or border collie mix, and we’re throwing a ball or frisbee.

There’s a couple of reasons I don’t have a dog. One reason is that I still live in a 4-plex apartment building that has a really small yard area. The other is that I want to be able to leave home for a few hours or a day and not worry about coordinating housesitting or dogsitting.

A possible third reason is I don’t want to be responsible for another living creature at the moment — not even a plant.

I think there would be some mental health benefits for having a high-energy animal around. Ya know? Someone who’s always down to go outside.

For now, I’ll keep making pets of the crawling-type spiders.
