The kids are in swim lessons four mornings a week for two weeks. It’s going well. It’s also a little painful: why in the world would the instructors give the kids different color rings to dive for?
The main outdoor swimming pool on Redstone Arsenal — Goss Rd Pool — is hosting 8 weeks of swim lessons. Lessons are broken down into four two week sessions. It’s well-organized, and the kids’ class has had no more than 6–7 kids.
Maddalyn will remain in Level 1 for the second week. She needs more time to be comfortable in the water. Aiden will advance to Level 2 starting in the second week. He can do the basics, but he does a lot of extra things like playing and splashing in addition to the exercises. He’s bored, and isn’t challenged. Because of how bold be is, I suspect he’s gonna be a legit swimmer.
One thing that’s consistent is that when both of the kids focus their attention on the instructions, they nail it. Like most kids their ages (Aiden 9 and Maddalyn 6), they would learn to swim more efficiently with individual instruction. In this group environment with other kids, they’re going to play and distract each other.
The toys advance. The technology advances. But, kids will always be kids. I’m optimistic that these two will become swimmers, eventually.
