All the Days Feel Like the Weekend, and It’s OK for Me, a Military Retiree, to Say That

I worried that I sounded like an a-hole admitting every day feels like a weekend. So, I convinced myself that my military service earned this level of leisure. I tried to, at least. It’s a habit I’m forming.

Leaving Bruegger’s Bagels with my breakfast sandwiches in hand, one of my favorite associates said to me, “Hey, I didn’t know you came on the weekends!” I smiled and replied, “Sometimes. But, they’re all weekends.”

As I got into my car, I wondered if I sounded like a douche bag by saying every day feels like a weekend. Then, I forced myself to remember I deployed five times and that I was stationed in seven locations on three continents throughout my 20 year career as an active duty military member. I remembered all those things to hijack my self-talk into telling me I earned this level of leisure. I did.

Dammit every day DOES feel like a weekend. I’m not an asshole or a douche. This is facts.

I like it here in retirement.
